Why verification is done at all
Account verification, also known by the abbreviation KYC (from the English "know your customer"), serves to confirm that the account really belongs to you. It is a standard across the whole industry and mostly follows directly from the rules against fraud and misuse.
There are three main reasons for it. The first is protecting your account from anyone else gaining access to it. The second is confirming your age, since only an adult aged 18 and over may play. The third is compliance with the anti-money-laundering rules that apply to the whole sector.
If verification is treated as a one-off step at the beginning, it generally does not hold you up later during the ordinary use of your account.
When the system asks you to verify
Verification is not always triggered right at registration. It often comes into play at the moment you carry out a specific action.
Most often you will meet the prompt in these situations:
- before your first withdrawal of funds,
- when changing important details on your account,
- when the system needs to confirm your age or identity,
- in the event of unusual activity that is worth checking.
It is sensible not to wait until the last minute. If you prepare your documents earlier, a withdrawal and other steps will not catch you out. A separate page covers withdrawals in more detail.
Which documents are usually requested
The specific list can vary, but in most cases it comes down to two groups of documents. The first is an identity document, the second a proof of address.
| Type of document | What works | What it is for |
|---|---|---|
| Identity document | ID card, passport or driving licence | confirming your name, date of birth and age |
| Proof of address | a bank statement or a utility bill with your name | confirming your place of residence |
| Proof of payment | details of the payment method you used | confirming the method belongs to you |
An identity document is almost always the basis. A proof of address and a proof of payment are requested depending on the situation. The verification page itself or support will show you the exact list that applies to your account.
How to prepare photos and files
Most rejected documents come down to simple mistakes. A few principles will save you from having to send things again.
- Photograph in daylight, without glare or a shadow across the text.
- Capture the whole document, including the corners, and do not crop anything.
- Make sure all the details are sharp and legible.
- Do not edit the image with filters or cover any part of the document.
- Check that the details on the document match those on your account.
If the name on the document differs from the name on your account, for example because of a typo during registration, it is worth fixing before you upload. Verification compares detail against detail, and a mismatch is the most common reason the process is delayed.
How verification works step by step
The procedure itself is straightforward and guides you through the individual steps.
- Open the verification section in your account settings.
- Choose the type of document you are going to upload.
- Attach a legible photo or scan of the document.
- If needed, add a proof of address or a proof of payment.
- Submit the documents and wait for feedback.
After submission, the documents go through a review. When everything is in order, the account is marked as verified and fully unlocked. If something is missing or illegible, the system or support will ask you to supply it. In that case it is enough to send a new, better shot.
How long verification takes
The duration depends on how many documents are being reviewed and whether they are in order from the start. Exact times cannot be given, since they vary from case to case.
What you can influence is the quality of the materials. Sharp, complete and matching documents generally pass the review smoothly and without questions. A blurred shot, a cropped corner or a mismatch in details, on the other hand, means an extra round.
If it seems to you that the review is taking unusually long, get in touch with support. It can tell you the state of your request and whether it still needs anything from you. While the review is underway, there is no need to send the same documents repeatedly, which tends to slow the process down rather than speed it up. Verification is a one-off matter, and once it is finished nothing slows down the ordinary use of your account. You can also read about protecting your login and account in the Safety section.
